After seeing the outlet of the Dos Ventanas cave while returning from snorkling (the photo of the people waving out from the cliff) we decided to see if we could find it. It is not marked.
And the road, a nice little black line on the map (versus the red lines which represent the 'main' roads which are paved and even marked) looked something like this:
After one particularly kidney-jarring stretch we parked where we found some other cars and set off on foot.
This is the terrain
Find the birdie!
We wandered about and found nothing.
Luckily a local group was out and about, and when one of them saw us forlornly walking about she asked if we were looking for the entrance to Dos Ventanas.
I think I forgot to mention before that the locals are very helpful and friendly.
Lovely.
Perhaps we should have taken it as an indication of how challenging this little jaunt might be that the tourism officials INTENTIONALLY did not mark the cave...
So here's the entrance.
At which point my claustrophobia rose up and stated, "Nope, nope, nope."
Jeff attempted to enter but it is not European-sized (it would have required him to crawl along a rocky floor to the detriment of his knees plus being seriously crouched over in another section which would not make his back happy) so he bailed.
Megan however was right-sized and game.
She went in, checked it out and came back for the camera so she could go back and take the following photos:
There are no safety barriers and I am amazed they do not loose more tourists falling out and onto the rocky coast below.
