Megan and I both managed to catch a really nasty virus at the end of July, just in time for school to start. We were very sick for several days, and Megan ended up in the ER because she had a very high fever which we could not bring down. They tested for various influenzas and strep, and all tests were negative. It was just a virus.
With the benefit of youth Megan snapped back rather quickly. My version of the virus turned into a nasty head cold and hacking cough. Joy. I have finally recovered but was puny for about a month.
Jeff was here for the serious illness part but then headed off to Brazil to board the USS America for about 2.5 weeks as it made its way down and around through the Strait of Magellan and up to Vaparaiso. He tells me he has about 500 photos from the journey so pester him if you want to see them.
Megan and I went, along with a large group of people from the Embassy, to tour the ship once it was in port in Valparaiso.
While Jeff was away I did something he doubted I would do...I passed Leroy on to his forever home!
I love this photo as Leroy was just tall enough to see in the front door if he stood on his back legs.
He did this when he was ready to come in after romping outside.
Mr. Personality
Another photo that cracks me up...he seemed to think he was smaller than he really was. He always seemed perplexed when he could not squeeze out under the gate. Ennis, while smaller, has always just poked his head out for better viewing.
When Leroy's new family came to pick him up this is how Ennis reacted.
For about 5 minutes.
Then it was party time as he realized he was free of the pesky younger foster brother who hassled him constantly, stole his tennis balls, demanded his own share of treats (!) and disturbed his naps.
And for those who must know, Leroy has gone to live with Jeff's assistant and her family. There is a 9 year old boy who is overjoyed with having a dog and apparently has the same energy level as Leroy so they are exhausting each other. Leroy has been on his absolute best behavior and his new family thinks he is the best dog ever. Whew. Our work is done with this one.
Ennis has been a little less enthused about walkies since Leroy departed so we've branched out and gotten off the beaten path to shake things up.
His new favorite spot is along the arroyo...but since we're dealing with the runoff from snow melting he can't get across without a lot of coaxing.
He hates getting wetting.
He has ever since he fell in the neighbors' koi pond in Poland.
Finally, I leave you with the roses from our garden.
In bloom for the third time in the year we have been here.
And some people complain about how awful the winter is in Santiago.
Whahahahahaha!
