We received a rather slender visitor from back in Virginia last week. Flat Stanley arrived by diplomatic pouch and has been touring around Krakow over the past week with us. Thanks to his family, the Blackstens of McLean, he came dressed warmly, which wasn't such a bad thing with our wonky weather. Here he is taking the sun outside St. Florian Gate on the planty.
Of course, Stanley mugged for all the pictures, with his brilliant toothy smile. Here he is posing by the Barbican, part of the old fortifications around the old town. We walked all over town on this holiday (Corpus Christi) and of course, Stanley got hungry. You wouldn't think he would eat much for such a slender guy.
So, Megan, being a great host, shared a pretzel with him. That's St. Mary's Cathedral in the background.
Of course, Stanley also visited the main market square and posed with Megan at several landmarks...here they are on the royal route, where ul. Grodzka enters the square. Stanley is an architecture history buff, so he insisted on stopping for a photo in front of this 11th century church. St. Adalbert's is a jewel of Romanesque Architecture. Stanley approves, as you can see his big smile.
