For our last trip in Chile we headed north...to the Atacama desert, the driest non-polar desert in the world.
We flew into Calama, where mining is the biggest industry around and the town itself is dirty and gritty. Not a lot of charm.
All we needed to do in Calama is pick up our wheels and head to San Pedro de Atacama...
Leaving town there is a spectacular windmill farm.
And then a lot of road that looks like this:
Yep, GPS tells us we are on the right track...not that there are a lot of options from which to choose when it comes to roads...
Ah, getting a little more interesting to look at.
A whole lot of empty...
Until you get closer to San Pedro where it starts to look like this:
We stayed outside of the city in a nice little cabana -- 2 bedrooms, bath, full kitchen and satellite tv.
Looking out the front door...the truck is very clean so we've only just arrived.
The location was in an oasis so there was greenery!
