Easter Continues...

On the Saturday before Easter Catholic Poles take their Easter basket to church to be blessed.

In the basket: bread, kielbasa, boiled eggs, salt, vinegar, horseradish and a lamb of some sort (I've seen them made of bread, chocolate and also plastic.) You can add other items per your taste.

The baskets are decorated with boxwood and the contents covered with a doily.

If you are so inclined you can also add ribbon and/or flowers for decoration.

After the basket is blessed you take it home and eat the contents for breakfast on Easter morning.

A little different than Easter baskets in the U.S.

We took the basket to St. Mary's Church on the Rynek. The Cardinal blesses baskets at this event.

It was erm, very popular.
