Fiesta Huasa

One of the big events at Megan's new school, Nido de Aguilas, is the annual Festival Huasa every September before the Dieciocho holiday.

 

We attended today and it was a lot of fun.

 

 

When the first thing you see is an ambulance you know it is gonna be good.

There was a rat in a cage and a bunch of little numbered houses in a circle around the cage.

You could bet as to which house the rat would choose.

Seating and sun tents for the masses.

The parade of the Huasos (cowboys)

There was the ceremonial drinking from the horn...a few looked teary-eyed after their sip.

I need to find out what was in the horn and avoid it.

 

Then a demonstration of the variations of the Cueca danced in the different parts of Chile.

 

 

Then a Cueca competition for all ages.

 

 Then some Huaso competitions such as 'break the pot':

This gentleman was the winner -- he whacked the pot and it shattered into oblivion.

 Plus barrel races

Then some activities for little kids at which point I started to wander about.

I am too old to spend hours sitting on bleachers.

Just sayin'.

Because come on, who wants to hang out with parents when friends are available?
