Yesterday we went to Zabrze for a belated 4th of July event.
The mine is no longer a working mine -- it is an ERIH site.
Ready to head to the elevator.
The youngest miner (she's 3).
Our guide in front of the elevator.
It had 3 compartments stacked on top of each other.
The ride was loud and dark but luckily short.
We were 320 meters below the surface.
Our guide never said what these were...they don't look like the lights the workers had.
An older tunnel. We didn't go down this one.
Machine demonstration #1.
Machine demonstration #2.
After the tour we enjoyed some grilled kielbasa.
The kids played on the inevitable inflatable.
We all received certificates for visiting the mine.
I'll let Jeff tell you about the ceremony.
