Ojców National Park

Less than an hour away from the house (to the North of Kraków for those of you keeping score at home) is a National Park called Ojców. It is a great place to spend a Sunday afternoon (or any day really, but we had the park to ourselves because it is All Saints' Day...and no Stuart, not the New Orleans kind.



This is a particularly beautiful area, a Jurassic-era river valley, and one of the gems (I think the smallest) of the Polish National Parks. We have a great program with the Forest Service and I thought it would be neat to go out here before the famous Polish Złota Jesien' (Golden Autumn) was completely over. The valley boasts karst topography and is very flinty...my father would love the geology...very interesting. Mainly though, there are a couple of medieval castles and plenty of caves in the limestone walls. This is Casimir's Castle...mostly in ruins, but one of the "eagle's nest" castles built up high over the land they control.



The valley is laced with walking paths...some good.



And some a little more challenging. Here Megan is learning to walk/hike with the help of her "fun stick"...which turned out to be so much fun, it tripped her up, throwing her flat on her belly!



Needless to say, she didn't want her picture taken! Bad Daddy!



Minor accidents aside...a beautiful area, and a rare blue sky. We will be back.
