After 14+ hours of overnight travel (of which Megan slept a grand total of 2.5 hours) we arrived in Krakow, Poland. Ten years after our first arrival in Poland it is nice to be back!
Our house is far out of town off a street that is more like an alley (only wide enough for one car) and has a lovely garden and back patio. The landlords live next door and we get the impression they are going to kill us with kindness if we let them...Pani Maria has already christened herself Megan's Polish grandmother.
We're about a 15 minute walk from a tram stop which shoots straight into the Old Town and all attendant tourist activities. Near the tram stop is a small market with a bakery, fresh fruit and veg, a pharmacy, etc. Nearby are two malls, once of which has a gigantic Carrefour which we visited on Sunday. The hypermarket is very bright and shiny with the usual young ladies on roller-skates to whiz around the store checking prices, etc. Found on the shelves to my surprise, along with other delights: Japanese rice vinegar and peanut butter. Wooo-hooo! Am diggin' Poland being part of the EU.
We're working through jet lag and trying to get organized while waiting for culture shock to hit. Pictures will follow once I locate my camera cord. I have a sinking feeling it is in the HHE shipment so I won't see it until the end of August at the earliest...

So delighted to have this, and so missing you. Wish Andrew and I were in Krakow with you (although from your point of view I expect you just wish we were there - full stop! You have enough to deal with!). Look forward to hearing about all the family adventures. Thank you for including us.

Barbara: Am so psyched you have a blog. How long is your term in Poland expected to be? I want to get to Germany at least in the next year or so...may need to detour into Poland. :-)
